In an ongoing project here at Franklin Sherman, families gather one Friday every other month after school (during
the day in the summer) to make lunches for homeless families and individuals in Alexandria. Families
purchase the food, come to school to prepare the lunches, and one family delivers them to the Carpenter
Shelter on Saturday morning. There is an opportunity for 4 families to help every other month of the year. It is appropriate for
all ages (little ones love to fill up the lunch bags), takes less than one hour, and is also a wonderful way to
meet other Franklin Sherman families. Families who have helped in the past report that children and adults
alike find this project satisfying and a valuable lesson for the children.
We are in need of families to commit to this program each month of the year. We offer online sign-up—it is
easy, free, and helps us coordinate information easily. Our online site will allow you to choose in which
supplies you would like to provide or if you would like to deliver the lunches to the shelter. You will receive an
email from us about one week prior to your volunteer date as a reminder. Please click on a link below to sign
up.
