Your Back-to-School PTA Checklist

Join the PTA. Annual PTA membership costs $20-$24 and is due EACH school year.
Subscribe to the school calendar and have our events automatically on your calendar. If you use your phone calendar or Outlook, click here and select "All Calendars." Or in Google Calendar, on the left menu, click the + next to "Other Calendars", then "From URL", then paste in http://franklinshermanes.fcps.edu/subscribe/all/calendar.ics
Follow us on Facebook or Instagram, and join the parent discussion group on Facebook.
If you shop at Harris Teeter or Mabels' Labels, click here and follow instructions on how you can help the school. Tell grandparents to do the same!
Volunteer. Our community is shaped by the people who step up to share their time to create better experiences for our children and teachers/staff. We can always use your help, whether you're great at fundraising, technology, creativity, set up/clean up, Excel, or Instagram. It's meaningful to give back and a lot of fun getting to know other parents, too. Email Katie Spillenkothen or Ahona Ahmed to let us know you'd like to get involved in some way--big or small.
Reach out to your employers or local businesses you frequent, and ask if they're willing to sponsor our Monster Mash Dash 5K race and promote their business. Our partnership with Potomac River Running has enabled us to raise more than $155,000 for Franklin Sherman over the years! We rely on our families' networks to have a successful event, and we're happy to reach out directly if you have company suggestions. LAST CALL for pizza orders for Friday's Dance Party

We hope you'll join us for a fun evening of music and dinner at our End-of-Year, School-wide Dance Party this Friday, June 9 @ 6-8 p.m.

The PTA is taking orders for large pizzas from Listrani’s that can be picked up at the event from 6-6:30 p.m. A large pizza and four bottles of water is $15 and must be purchased in advance. Sales benefit the PTA. Place your order here.

All pizza orders must be placed by noon on Thursday, June 8, and there will be NO pizzas available to purchase on site. If you don't order pizza, please arrange to bring your own dinner. Order Pizza

Thanks to the PTA, we'll also have a DJ that will take song dedications, a photo booth to capture memories, and an ice cream truck selling sweets. Please bring a blanket, chairs and lawn games of your choice. This event is weather permitting, so cross your fingers for sunshine. Parent supervision is required; this is not a drop off event.

Join Us for a Spirit Day Picnic on Friday, March 17

Dress up in your green spirit wear and join other families from our Franklin Sherman community for a picnic dinner. We will celebrate from 5:30-8:00 p.m. with great music DJ'ed by Bach 2 Rock and a musical instrument "petting zoo." Come play lawn games and have a fun family scavenger hunt with prizes.

The PTA is selling Papa John's pizza. All pizza orders are $12 and an include a large pizza and 4 bottles of water. You can choose cheese, pepperoni or half cheese/half pepperoni.

Pizza will only be available to those families who have pre-ordered by Thursday, March 16 at noon. We will not have extra pizzas for sale on site. If you miss this deadline, please plan to bring your own food. The Kona Ice Truck will also be there selling sweet treats that also benefit the school.

Monster Mash Dash 5K & Fun Run, October 31

Sign up your family to join us for a 5K at 8 a.m. or 1-Mile Fun Run at 8:50 a.m. on Halloween Sunday, October 31. Costumes are encouraged! The 1-mile course around the Franklin Sherman track is easy enough for kids, stroller friendly and can be a fun and safe way for the kids to dress up and show off their Halloween costumes. Don't be left out! We'd love your support even if you just come to cheer on the kids. Or if the day doesn't work for your schedule, you can sign up and run the course at another time. Kids will be encouraged to wear their race t-shirts for a school spirit day following the event.

The money raised through race sponsorships goes directly to the Franklin Sherman PTA. Get a head start on the 2021/2022 school year by purchasing your child’s school supplies today! We're excited about our new local vendor, Campus Survival Kits, because they offer a number of great benefits:

The kits assemble all of the personal and community supplies our teachers have requested for each grade
Don’t need everything offered in the full kit? You can choose to create your own kit and add items a la carte
When ordering you have the flexibility to add headphones to the kit or you may provide your own separately if you prefer to buy a different brand/style or your child already has a set from this year
Low prices
Kits will be delivered directly to Franklin Sherman prior to the first day of school so that you don't have to send them in with your child
Personal supplies come in a custom Franklin Sherman drawstring backpack
Each purchase benefits the school and the more we order, the more free refills we can receive on select items in January

Buy today and cross school supplies off your list. Orders must be placed by the end of July to ensure they are delivered to the school in mid-August. Late orders, including orders for new students during the school year, may not arrive by the first day of school, and the ordering site will indicate when and where you can expect your kit to arrive.

Check out NEW DESIGNS for the 2020-2021 School Year! Stock up!

This is the first time that we have had an online shop and all orders will benefit the PTA and support a local business. Products will be made to order so you and your kids can get exactly the items you want in the sizes you need. The shop will be open only for a few weeks so place your orders now. Once the shop closes, all orders will be shipped to your home. The shop will reopen in the fall.
